Thoughts on the Last Couple Weeks

Wolfram Alpha released into the wild.  Will be interesting to see where this one goes, or if Google swallows it in time.  Link …and Microsoft’s new rollout of their search engine Live Search is expected soon.  It’s called Bing.  Link

Nice blog post on getting started with Twitter.  Link

Plan to try out Prompt: a free tele-prompting software program.  I used to teach Speech and would set up a silly little teleprompter on a TV screen for students to read from when I filmed movie critic shows. Plan to see if this program is any good.  Link

Gmail allows you to preview email on slow loading network.  Useful on our pathetic network!  Link

Good post on ways for teachers to build websites.  Link

Good Wiki about Web 2.0 tools.  Link

Also like the E-Toolbox with guides on many important tools.  Link

Best Find.

Loving the Orbit Downloader. Allows me to download videos from most websites.  Comes in handy when your school network sucks!    It does annoy me when I don’t want to download anything though.  Have to find a way to disable it.  Link

Sites I’d Use If I Taught Math or Statistics.

The idea of StatPlot is great for visualizing sports statistics.  However, lacking baseball statistics is a real problem.  Probably related to MLB’s strict licensing rules.  Link

I’ve seen a math teacher using Small Blue Printer for designing houses.  Pretty cool Flash app.  Link

Updating Windows is a pain if you have to do it on multiple machines.  I think the idea of creating an XP update CD makes perfect sense.  Nice option might be Patchmate XP.  Link

Just for Fun

Like the slick new Hulu Desktop application. Should be released at the start of a TV season in my opinion.  Link

Love the glass effect of Firefox in Windows 7 and Vista. Link or Link

For coffee-drinking educators like myself.  Link
