The new WordPress 2.7 looks different and allows much more customization. I’m impressed. There was something clunky about the last version, though it was perfectly useful. This new version seems to offer much more functionality, including the ability to deny comments whatsoever. I want to post and offer my thoughts on topics, but I really think the freedom to leave comments on a story never seemed too appealing to me. I have left comments on other people’s posts, but usually posts are negative and offer little to the discussion.
Usually I find comments helpful if someone throws out a question, especially a technical question. They provide the best way for me to find out solutions to common problems. I prefer forums for commenting, as opposed to blog posts and news stories. I almost would like to receive an email in response to my ideas as opposed to a public comment. The anonymity of many posts allows for the types of comments people would never leave in person. The freedom to disable comments seems elementary, but I couldn’t find the option in any of the previous version of WordPress. I also think posting within the web interface is much better than before. I still would like a mass delete feature of comments. I haven’t yet found this feature in here yet, but I’m sure it will come someday. Deleting 20 comments at a time is not convenient at all.
Sorry, no comments allowed on this post. Thank God.
