Blogging Hiatus
I would guess that about seven years ago I tried to start blogging. I started with the earliest version of a blog suggested to me by a friend called Radio Userland. It was extremely difficult to set up, but I labored for hours to configure it to work. However, the complications in the early days turned me off to blogging.
Since then, everyone has a blog and many blogs have been consistently updated for years. I’m only starting to blog again because I find that sometimes waiting is the best option in terms of technology. It has become so easy and convenient to setup, maintain and update a blog that the tools actually allow you to write and share your ideas, and spend little effort configuring settings.
I love the ease in setting up WordPress, configuring its display, and all the features it includes in the backend. I prefer to install WordPress on my own server, since the online blog is limited in its features. The ScribeFire add-on to Firefox is so useful. It allows you to blog as you use the Internet and within the browser. The features of this little add-on are so robust; it could easily be a stand-alone application in itself. I have experimented with Live Writer from Microsoft, but the options available with ScribeFire’s simple F8 toggle make it the ideal choice for blogs. It also makes it easy to pull in images from Flickr and YouTube.
I’m happy I took the hiatus from blogging. I’m excited by the prospects upon my return. Many of the early bloggers have probably faded off, and I will pick up from here. The best thing about blogging is that it allows you to gather your thoughts and reflect on topics of interest. I have found in terms of technology that the early adopters are usually the most patient and the most frustrated. If you want to make your life easier and your experience with technology more rewarding, wait and come late to the scene, after all the bugs and nuisances are history.
